We hired a photographer for the day after thanksgiving to take Christmas pics of all the cousins together. My fingers are crossed that we'll get a couple of good ones! The kids were all ready to go at 10am, but with the crews on the streets picking up tree limbs from the freak Oct storm, the photographer was about a half hour late and my kids began to melt down. Here are some pics in happier times at around 10am.....

After a nap for the girls and a break for Mommy we headed back to the Tonon house for ravioli making. Mia had a ball making and then eating the traditional ravioli. Liv was still semi-cranky so I hung with her most of the night. I think she is teething and maybe getting a little sick, so she's not 100% right now. I take her for her 18 month check up on Monday, so we'll see what the doctor has to say then....

My last 2 weeks in a nut shell....I had the flu, then I got pink eye, a historic storm that force us to cancel my 30th birthday brunch, our lights have been out for 5 days and counting, and Halloween was cancelled! These are 2 weeks we're going to for sure remember!

Mia was up in the air about what she wanted to be....actually at one point she just wanted to be "Mia." After seeing the Dora Halloween special where Dora dressed as a Bee, Mia decided she wanted to be a "Dora Bee." So we whipped out her costume from last year and there you have it.

As you can tell by my previous post I've been a little preoccupied with work lately. I also pass out early when I sit down at night and then proceed to not sleep well and wake up around 5-5:30am.......because Jeter barks like mad at our paper delivery guy. I'm not complaining, just making excuses as to why I can't find the time to keep up with my posts. So enough about me and onto my precious little baby girls. I keep trying to get a good pic of the both of them and I just seems IMPOSSIBLE! I just want that 1 pic to keep in a frame forever.....so I'll keep on trying. Here's the past couple of months in a nutshell

Speaking of nutshells. This is a pic of the morning before Mia's 1st day of school. Greg and I knew we couldn't give Mia peanuts for snack because someone in her class has a peanut allergy, but no one mentioned we couldn't give her almonds. We got "talked to" after her 1st class and they said we can't bring any kind of nut.....don't you think they should have just specified this in the flyer they sent about not bringing peanuts into class?

The Modern Family

So this morning at breakfast Mia was playing with her breakfast and made a family out of star fruit. With all different sized star fruit she made a daddy, mommy, Mia, baby Liv, and a Jeter…..she then added a raspberry to the Mommy star fruit and said…..oh and here’s Mommy’s computer. I think she’s trying to tell me something……

Liv 16 month checkup

Weight: 24.9lbs (75th percentile)
Height: 32.5" (90th percentile)

Liv is right on track for "normal" development. She still can't say a ton of words, but according to the doctor "normal" for this age is 5-15 words, so she fits right into that category! Words she can say are "Mom", "Dad", "Bop" - nickname for Jeter, "Abby", "no", "ball", "Paul", "Baby".....and there are a few others that I'm sure I'm missing. She also makes more animal sounds and gestures. Her favorite animal sound to make is a lion. I remember Mia's was an Owl. Liv is trying to climb on everything now and is such a little daredevil. She is also super impatient and gets frustrated very easily. For example, she wants to use her spoon so badly, but can't use it really well so she gets angry that she can't use it. I end up having to take it away from her so she can use her hands to feed herself. She gets over it quickly too though.....once I take that spoon away she'll just use her hands and pretend like she wasn't just angrily flailing her arms and legs 2 seconds before. Liv is still super loving, but she is also terribly rough. She'll hit or pull your hair and then laugh about it. We try saying "no, be gentile", but she really will do it again and then laugh about it. She is such a "trouble maker" and Greg and I know we're in for it with this one! As Liv grows it is actually very funny to see just how opposite her and Mia really are. Honestly, like night and day!

Mia's 3 year Checkup

My little girl has grown up. Normally Mia starts crying from the time we pull into the parking lot until the time we leave....not this time! She was a little scared when they called her name, but didn't start the usual sobbing ritual. She stood up on the scale and put her back to the height chart like a big kid and did great through out the checkup. My little girl is all grown up! OK, not really she has a lot more growing to do, but sometimes she really acts like a little adult and I have to remember she is only 3! She is 3 feet 3 inches and 34 pounds. Still 90th percentile for height and 50th for weight. This tall and skinny beanpole is on her way to becoming 5'8''! The doctor said give or take a couple of inches....but either way she'll be towering over me!

Potty Training has come to a halt once again

The poor girl! After 22 hours of holding in #1 and 4 days of holding in #2 Greg and I once again are forced to halt potty training. Below is part of an email I got from Greg yesterday after he spoke to our doctors office:

"Steph, the advise nurse told us to “Completely stop all potty training activities and Talk” and diaper her. She said that is may take her longer to get it, but she said that Mia may come to us on her own in a short period of time anyway. It is not uncommon for kids hold it, but it seems with her it is a behavior issue, rather than an understanding issue. Either way it is not good for her to hold it and mentally she needs a break. She told me that she has seen it before."

Greg and I were DETERMINED to make potty training a success this weekend. He took Friday off and we had a nice long weekend of trying and trying and trying to get Mia trained. I can now tell you, she is not. I am mentally exhausted from her holding it in and whining and saying she wants diapers and physically exhausted from being up all night with a child that has to go to the potty, but refuses to do so. This girl will just hold it in until the cows come home. It is heartbreaking because she says she wants a diaper and she is scared, but Greg and I know she can do it because she's done it before. This time we are not caving in and we're sticking to the big girl panties.....no if, ands or "butts".

Started off kind of sketchy......Mia didn't want to go to school today. She was a little whinny and kind of scared....as you can see by her hiding in our pantry.....

After about 5 minutes of being in school, Mia was in love with the toys, the teachers, the other kids, and the popcorn! Here's a video of her showing her new friend Lizzie where the popcorn is.

By the end of orientation Mia was having so much fun that she didn't want to come home! She also told me when it was all over......"see that wasn't that bad."

Mia's 3rd Birthday and first official "kid's party". We have been having Mia's birthday in our backyard for the past few years and since she is getting older and more excited to hang with her friends so we had her birthday at the Imagine Nation this year. SHE LOVED IT. She had been talking about her birthday for weeks leading up to the day and I'm happy to say she was not disappointed. She loved every second of it and as a parent I couldn't ask for anything more.

Mia's 3!!! My Mom has the pictures of the actual Bday at the Imagine Nation Museum, but I have the pics of the "after party". Mia tasked me with putting together all her fun new toys and we ate more cake too. It was a great day and Mia really had a blast. It was the first time she really understood the concept behind her birthday and was excited to have "happy birthday" sung to her and presents to open. In the morning before her party I actually heard her in her bedroom talking to herself saying "It's my birthday today"! She is growing up sooooo very fast.

So Mia had her boyfriend Connor over today. They enjoyed swimming, lunch, the swing set and FINALLY we got some use out of the Mini Cooper! Connor was driving Mia all over town! Mia has been afraid to actually make the car go, but once Connor did it she was willing to try it. She still doesn't really understand the concept of steering or holding the petal down, but she'll get there. The classic moment of the day was when she walked out of the house with her purse and cell phone and tried getting in the drivers seat of the car. Greg told her she couldn't hold her cell phone and purse while driving and she was so upset by that.

Ear update

So not the best news in the world when I got my packing out of my ear on Friday. Although the graft still remains in place, the blood vessels have yet to grow into it. The doctor said to keep doing my ear drops and he'll check back in 3 weeks. He said it was still possible for it to take, but he definitely didn't make it sound very likely. This is very disappointing news, but at the end of the day I have to tell my self it's not the end of the world. I am otherwise healthy and have a healthy and happy family and that's all I need! You'll all have to deal with me saying "what?", "huh?" for years to come :)

Those of you that know me know that I have a significant hearing loss in both of my ears. I have had unsuccessful corrective surgeries in the past and I gave it another shot yesterday. The doctor said everything went great, so I am hopeful that all this will be worth it. I've already noticed a difference in the physical aspect of the surgeries. The last time I had this done they had to shave some of the hair off above and behind my ear. To my surprise they did not have to do that this time. Also, I do not have my ear all taped up this time....just a cotton ball protecting my ear from infection. I have my follow up checkup on 8/12 so we'll know more then!

Mini Cooper!

The truth is Greg and I wanted to get her a car for her birthday anyway. When the doctor told us to bribe Mia in order to get her to use the potty we decided to use the mini cooper as our weapon of choice. Mia was able to pick any car she wanted and the Mini Cooper was the clear winner. She has been getting in and out of this car since we gave it to her last night. She LOVES it. The battery needs to be plugged in for a full 24 hours before the 1st use, so tonight we'll actually let her drive it. Luckily the demo cars at Toys R Us don't actually work so I don't think she has any clue that the car will actually move. That will be another fun surprise for her tonight.

Mia FINALLY went pee-pee in the potty on Saturday!!! She hasn't gone since, but it was still such a great feeling to know she can do it! I'm not sure who was more "relieved" that it happened, but I am more determined than ever to get this girl out of diapers. I still don't want to put too much pressure on her, but preschool is right around the corner so she needs to learn. I give her the week off and just focus on the potty training when I'm with her on the weekends......so keep your fingers crossed for me this Saturday!

I just helped my 2 best friends celebrate their 30th bdays! Lisa's bday was 7/9 and Becky's bday was 7/11. So to celebrate, we had a fantastic dinner party in NYC on Thursday followed by a beach party in Lordship on Saturday. ugh...this just means I'm next! Happy bday girls!

We had so much fun in Milford on July 4th. Mia now LOVES the beach and asks to go back all the time. She use to be scared of the sand and it's nice that she has finally grown to enjoy it. Speaking of Mia she just keeps coming up with the funniest things. I made a flag cake for the 4th of July and just in the conversation alone I think I can have a reality show. Some funny quotes from the cake making:

As I was icing the cake Mia went to swipe her finger across the cake for a taste of the icing. I said "don't even think about it." So Mia then went over to the icing bowl and said "can I think about this?"
Then I was making the flag out of blueberries and raspberries and Mia said "ohhhh...i wish that was candy."

Greg celebrated his 33rd Bday on June 15. Happy Birthday/Father's Day!

Mia and Liv LOVE when I wash the couch slip covers. I take the couch cushions off and they jump and run all over the couch. It is so fun to watch.

Lisa, Paulie and Baby Lila came to visit us this past weekend! We took a fun trip to Lake Compounce. Liv is a crazy maniac on the rides and tries to stand up and jump out of the cars.

I could resist snapping some pics of these 2 girls. They are too cute!

Mia LOVES her cousin baby Lila. She is constantly taking about her and wants Auntie Lisa to sit on the couch with baby Lila so she can see and hold her. All weekend she was telling me to take a picture of her and Lila. It is really great to see all the cousins together. Mia LOVES Lila, Paulie LOVES Mia and Liv just LOVES everything...so it's a really great time.

Sunny Days.....keeping the clouds away.....

Can you guess where we've been the past week? Yup! Sesame Place! It was so fun. Mia had a little bit of a hard time adjusting to not being home and having to sleep in the hotel, but by the end of the trip she didn't want to come home and wanted to stay at the hotel. But all in all, it was a great trip. It was our first family vacation with just the 4 of us and that in and of itself was special. Liv LOVED seeing all the characters and Mia LOVED the rides. Greg and I just LOVED spending time with the girls and each other. Here are some highlights from the trip:

Mia would have spend all day with the character hand prints if we let her

Breakfast with the characters was so fun for Liv. She would point to a character, we'd bring her over to see the character and then she would immediately point to the next character she wanted us to bring her over to. Mia's favorite part of the character breakfast was when they announced all the characters had to leave to go to work....

One of the days we rented a cabana on the Rambling River. It was perfect and made it really feel like we were on vacation.

We got access to the characters before their parade with the VIP cabana rental package. I love this pic above. It's hard to see, but Liv is actually showing Ernie a figurine of Bert. Liv's favorite characters turned out to be Bert and Cookie Monster.

Mia slept through the character meet and greet and I think that was actually for the best.

Another favorite spot for Mia was in the giant sand pale. When you climbed up the giant sand pale there was a slide, but Mia didn't want to go down the slide, she just liked walking up and down the sand in the pale. This is something she again would have done all day long if we let her.

It's amazing how much kids loved this giant firetruck. Liv would get seriously pissed when she'd have to get off and let other kids take a turn!

My poor little Liv was sick with the Croup for her first birthday. Total bummer. She at least managed to wake up for lunch and cake and then fell asleep again. Since then Liv and also Mia developed a bacterial infection. So they've both been on amoxicillin since Tuesday. Never a dull moment!

What a short year this has been! Where did the time go? I know since I'm officially "old" I'm going to be saying those phrases a lot more often now. My little Olivia you are the world's happiest baby. You are always playing games and making everyone around you light up. You are so very funny and have the most contagious laugh. Your sister Mia adores you and you want to be just like her and do everything she does. Even if I buy you both the same thing, you'd rather play with Mia's than your own. Your Daddy and I definitely say you are the wild child. Just yesterday at Ivy Drive School you climbed up the slide all by yourself! Your father was so amazed at your strength! You have no fear which is a good, yet scary thing. If you try something and fall or hurt yourself, you will get a little upset, but then get up and try it again! We have to keep our eye on you Missy!

Liv took her first steps today!

Liv took her first steps today! Followed by her first many steps, followed by turning around while walking, followed by walking a little - standing for a few minutes - then continuing to walk again. I'll take a video of her soon to post for everyone! She may be running by the time her bday party comes around. Quick story - Mia was so excited to see Liv walk that she said "Yea...OK Liv now lets go!" Mia literally thought that Liv was going to be able to run around and follow her.

In the world of Mia, we tried potty training her which has lead to her now holding in her pee for hours and hours and hours.....the very definition of anal retentive. I'm going to call the advice nurse tomorrow to figure out how to nip this one in the bud!

And by the way, Mia has a boyfriend now. We've seen Connor twice in the past week and Mia calls him her boyfriend and gets so excited to see and hang out with him. I've been bad with the camera again, but I'll definitely have to snap a pic of these 2 love birds so I can bring it out on their wedding day :)

Quick recap of the past 2 weekends...

Went to the world's worst zoo. It was at the Hartford XL Center. For some reason I was so excited to take the girls to the "traveling zoo." I normally can contain my excitement, but I just thought this was going to be the perfect for them. When we got there there was a line for the elevator. There was 1 elevator and a ton of strollers, not a good combo. When we walked out of the elevator we realized they took us all the way to the basement. The zoo was in the basement! It was dark, crowded and not at all what I was expecting. They had random animals in cages just plopped in the middle of a mini carnival. There were some rides that Mia wanted to go on, but the lines were so long that by the time we got up to the ride, there was a different ride that Mia spotted and would want to ride that one instead. Also, the animals that were randomly placed throughout the "zoo" had food machines next to their cages that cost a quarter. Mia LOVED feeding the animals, but there were no change machines and none of the vendors would give us quarters for our dollars. Needless to say, we will not be going to the traveling zoo if it was to come back to Hartford Next year!

Fun-filled weekend followed by more sickness!

I was so upset i forgot my camera on Saturday. My sister had us and her in-laws over for the unvailing of her newly remodeled garage turned family room. Liv was a kissing bandit yet again, giving both baby Brady and Declyn their first kisses! Mia was entertained and was entertaining both the dogs Charlie and Milo. We had such a great time and really I wish I had a few pics of all the kiddies hanging out together. Oh well....we'll just have to convince Auntie Melissa to have us all over again real soon!

Sunday we had a nice little family day. In the afternoon we took a walk over to the school, as usual, and let the kids play on the playground. We actually ended up meeting a super nice couple who had a 2 year old, a 7 month old and a 5 month old Pug. It was so funny because all the kids got along so well and so did the dogs! We exchanged phone numbers and once the weather gets a little nicer again we're planning on meeting up more often so the kids can socialize more and so can the adults!

Date Night

In the event Greg has to stay late at work or has a company function after-hours, I will take the girls on a "date night." Once they get a little older I can change up where we go a little bit more, but for now it's basically McDonalds since they have the playgrounds and Mia can burn off some of her energy there. Well, tonight was one of those nights. Mia and Liv were both dream children, sitting and eating and watching the other children play while they ate their food. Once Mia ate her ENTIRE happy meal (that's right, every last piece of cheeseburger and fries), she wanted to play. She did many of the things she saw the kids before her do....she had to try out the big birthday chair, swing around a pole, and climb into the fire engine. Then it happened....a little girl (5 yrs old) came in and immediately caught Mia's eye. Mia walked up to the girl and said "Hi". The girl said "Hi" back. Then Mia said kind of hanging her head down low and talking in a soft voice "My name is Mia." The little girl said back "Hi Mia! My name is Veronica, do you want to play?" Mia's face lit up and she said "YEA!" It was sooooo cute to watch this interaction. Each and every day Mia is growing and growing and getting more and more ready for preschool. I can't believe what a BIG girl she is.

Liv is the best too. She ate almost an entire chicken breast tonight! Then she had a ball watching her sister play in the play land. I walked her around and she was jumping and laughing and just wanting to be in the action. Once this girl can walk I think I'm going to be in serious trouble.....

Liv is 10 months old! What's she up to now?

almost crawling - she can go from her belly to a sitting up position and gets on all fours.
almost walking - she only needs to hold one of your hands to walk. She is getting more and more stable and more and more confident every day.
Still love to tease me when I ask her to say "Ma Ma" she 99% of the time looks at me smiles and says "Da Da"
Starting to not want baby food anymore. She wants to feed herself and enjoys eating whatever we're eating.
not sleeping still...sore subject!
Still the happiest/ cutest baby ever....so it kind of makes up for the non-sleeping what I go to her crib and she is smiling ear to ear and reaching up for me to get her.

Quick Update

Hello! He's a quick update on the Tonon clan:

Bye Bye Binky! Mia is Binky-free as of about a week ago. She only used it to sleep, but we basically had to retrain her on how to fall asleep on her own.....not fun.
Bye Bye night time feedings for Liv. After her 9 month appointment the doctor advised me to cut out all night time feedings. It was a hard transition to get her off the 2am feeding, but she's getting better now. She did sleep through the night for the first time a couple of days ago. It hasn't happened again since, but it is still nice to see a light at the end of the tunnel.
Hello formula. Liv is now 100% on formula.
Liv is so close to walking. She can stand on her own for a few seconds and can pull herself into a standing position by grabbing onto objects.
Liv is also trying to talk so much. She will attempt to say a lot of word. She'll really only get the first letter out, but it's still great she's attempting it.
definitely says "MaMa" now :)
Liv is also wanting to feed herself more foods. She's had finger foods such as pasta and meatballs, blackberries and strawberries and toast
Mia is officially enrolled in Farmington Farms Nursery School!!! It starts after Labor Day and is Tuesday and Thursday from 9-12. She will have a half hour swim lesson one of the days and a half hour gym lesson the other day. In celebration I bought her the cutest backpack from pottery barn kids. I tried to take her picture with it on tonight, but she was not into that at all. Mia is really excited to go to Farmington Farms, but mostly because she thinks it's really a farm. She keeps asking if there are cows and pigs there....
Kids City museum in Midlletown rocks! Greg and I took the girls there Saturday and Mia had so much fun that she woke up on Sunday asking to go again.....so I did :) I've been lax on the picture taking lately, but need to jump back on it because these girls are growing TOO fast!

9 months!

You can tell Liv is my second because once again I didn't get the exact stats at the doctor, only that she was 97th percentile for height and 75th for weight....very bad of me. I'll have to ask Greg when he comes in from snow blowing if he remembers. Either way, she is growing up so so so fast! I kind of feel like I'm having a mid-life crisis, but I'm not yet mid-life....maybe a quarter-life crisis? I can't help but be sad when I look at my baby growing up. She just turned 9 months and I'm already dreading her first birthday. She is such a perfect little baby, that I am truly going to miss having my little snuggle bunny. She is so loving and huggable and loves to give wet open mouth kisses. I am trying so hard to just enjoy the present because I know these kids grow up so fast!

preschool open houses, snow storms and cheetos

Random title? Those were the first three things that popped into my mind when trying to think about what's happened since I last blogged.

Open Houses - All weekend and next week Greg and I are tackling preschool open houses and walk-throughs. We are looking at 5 different schools this week, so by next Sunday I should know for sure where Mia is going to go next year. I'll be happy when we finally make that decision! Maybe I'll have to run out an get her a backpack when we finally choose the school :)

snow storms - where do i live again? I guess living in the north east I should come to accept snow....and trust me I do, but can't this wait until the girls are old enough to put skis on? I am being tortured on a daily basis having to look at all this snow and not yet be in that place in life where I can throw the family in the car and head up to VT for the day or even the weekend. And of course I don't want to go to the mountain without the girls because then I'll just miss them. Here are some pics of the girls enjoying the snow...

And my final thought was Cheetos. Liv is an eating machine and she'll eat and eat and eat. Her favorite snack, Gerber cheese puffs, which are basically baby-friendly Cheetos. She LOVES them. Liv has been kind of talking lately. For Example, when she waves hi she makes a sound that sounds similar to "HHHAAAAAAA", but she doesn't clearly say "Hi." Then last night, she was roaming around in the walker saying "DADA DADA DADA". Greg and I weren't sure if she was actually saying "DADA" or just kind of rambling, but just as we were trying to determine if she was really saying "DADA" or not, she pointed that little stubby finger right at Greg and said "DADA DADA DADA!"

Greg and I (ok more me than him) were devastated to learn Mia did not get The Village Nursery School. They accept 16 kids and the only kids they give preferential treatment to are children with siblings that went to this school. The remaining spots are determined through a lottery. It was just our luck that 13 of the spots were already filled by kids with siblings!!! Are you kidding me?!?! So there were only 3 spots left and Greg and I did not draw a winning ticket. We are 3rd on the waiting list and the lady at the School said that was good and she's seen it all before and not to give up hope....but at this point the hope is gone and I am so disappointed. Sure there are other schools out there and she's going to be fine no matter what, but I really feel like this would have been the perfect place for Mia to begin her transition into School. This just goes to show that I am most likely going to continue to be a crazy emotional wreak for the rest of my life because I only want the very best for my two little angels.

So I feel like the worst mom ever. Friday night I had Liv's monitor on, but the volume was off! I went to bed around 9:30 pm and woke myself up around 4am in a panic. I knew something was wrong because Liv usually wakes up 2-3 times a night. I went to check the video monitor to make sure it was on and that's when I noticed the volume was off. I also noticed that Liv flipped herself around so her head was where her feet normally are and visa versa. Poor thing! So in the morning I decided that I shouldn't let the 1 night of crying be worthless. I've been thinking about doing the ferber method with Liv for a little while now. I waited to 1 year with Mia, but Mia was also a much better sleeper. Either way, I ferbered Liv all weekend and I am happy to say she is doing great. My main concern was she has a tendency to puke when she gets upset, but as long as i check in on her every few minutes, she calms right down and eventually falls asleep. She still hasn't slept through the night yet, but since I am no longer feeding her in the middle of the night I'm hoping she will have her first full night's sleep very soon.

Mia went to the dentist for the first time on Monday. She, as expected, cried hysterically, but once everything was over she wanted to stay and play in the waiting room. And when we got home she was so excited to show everyone her clean teeth.....so cute. By the way, she went to tiny teeth in Bristol and they were phenomenal.

Then last night Greg and I went to an open house for one of the preschools we are looking into for Mia. We went to The Village Nursery School in Farmington and we both fell in love with it for her. The women that run the place were so nice, plus it's in a really great area and it didn't feel like she was in a school....more of a caring/ nurturing environment. So we submitted her application and we should hear back within 48 hours if she's been accepted or not. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. If not....there are 2 other schools in the area we'd consider.....

We're missing baby Joe this time, but he lives in Phillie so he's unfortunately not going to be a regular. With Joe out of the picture, Liv made her move on Baby Luke! Liv's 1st Christmas!

We had an amazingly great Christmas this year. Mia was old enough to understand the concept of Christmas and was really into the Santa/Rudolph/Frosty DVDs. She also loved learning all the Christmas songs. She of course also loved the idea of getting presents and whenever you asked her what she wanted from Santa she would always say "Toys!" Nothing specific, just "Toys!" This year she had so much fun opening the presents that she took forever to open them because she would want to play with whatever she opened instead of just moving onto the next. Some of Mia's favorite this year were the wonder pets/School house, Madagascar character beanie babies, fake food for her kitchen, a camera (thanks auntie Jen!) and her little people play house. Liv was a joy as always and liked everything she got too. She's really into her stand up walker and the Elmo Microphone and remote control (which i think were both Mia's gifts, but Mia's cool with sharing them). Liv also got a lot of the Olivia books, which I know she will appreciate soon enough. Having kids really brings back the magic and joy of waking up on Christmas morning. Greg and I both said this was the best Christmas ever and we know we need to enjoy it while it lasts because these kids are going to grow up so fast! I love you my little family and I am so blessed to have you!

The Tradition continued this year with us hosting Christmas Eve. We were joined by our parents, Grandma and Grandpa Vallee, Jen and Jules. Nona and Pop pop could not make it this year since Pop Pop is still on the mend after his mini stroke. Greg, the girls and I brought them over some of the traditional baked stuffed shrimp to eat that day though and Nona said that made their Christmas.

8 months!

Liv is 8 months!

Still not sleeping through the night......whenever I feel like we're getting close, she'll relapse and have a few nights in a row where she's waking up like every hour. She is getting better....but I'm dying for at least 1 night of uninterrupted sleep very soon.
She got her 1st tooth on Christmas day! It's one of her bottom front teeth and the other bottom/front one looks like it should break through any day now.
Eating everything she can get her hands on. She loves literally everything we feed her, including the Tonon pasta and sauce.

loves those mesh food nets that you put food into and then she has to chew the food out. We've tried apples, banana and pear in there and she goes to town.

Really into these baby "mum-mum" all natural snacks that Greg buys for her.
Tried saltines the other day (thanks Mia) and she of course loved those too.
Honestly, nothing I can think of that she won't eat.....

She's showing signs of wanting to walk and communicate now, but zero interest in crawling.
you can tell she's really starting to understand a lot more now. She will point at something and then get really excited when you tell her what she's pointing to. We took Mia to Build-a-bear at the Westfarms mall on Sunday. When I was telling her where we were going I explained all the fun toys she can help make. She can make a bear, or a dog, or Rudolph, or frosty the snowman, or others too. I asked her which one she wanted to make and she looked at me with her eyes wide and a huge smile and said "ALL OF THEM!" I had to explain to her that she can only have 1 since all the other little boys and girls needed toys too. She finally decided on Rudolph....Rudolph with a leash and rollerskates.
On the way home from the mall, Liv got a little fussy. Mia said "turn the music on Mom!" ...a little background, our music class CD is my secrete weapon for Liv. Whenever Liv starts to get fussy I throw that on and she automatically stops crying. So it was hysterical when Mia put two and two together and wanted me to throw this on when Liv cried.

Jones Family Farm

My sister and a group of friends and family go to Jones Family Farm every year to cut down their trees. This year Liv and I tagged along, despite not actually cutting down a tree (we're using the fake tree 1 more year and then we'll join the masses to cut down our own next year). Greg and Mia had to stay home since Mia had a not so normal morning...waking up a 5am and then crashing around 11:15am. I had to be on the road at 11:45 to get to Shelton for 1pm and Greg and I thought waking Mia up to get in the car could have had a very bad result. Miss Mia needs her beauty rest to be a normal functioning, non-cranky 2 year old! And we were pleased in that decision seeing she ended up taking one of her famous 3 hour naps! So either way, Liv and I helped Melissa, Mike and Charlie pick out their tree and my Mom and Dad picked out a nice tree as well. Liv got to meet Baby Brady, Declyn, and Emily. She was very happy to finally meet baby Brady since she looks at his picture on our fridge every day and smiles and laughs every time!

Mia's 1st Haircut!!!!

So most of you know that Greg has forbidden me to cut Mia's hair until she is a teenager. For a while I was OK with this, but Mia's curly, curly hair has really been a struggle for both me and her lately. Her hair gets so knotty that it's really hard for me to brush it without hurting her. I feel so bad, but I need to brush her hair often or else it starts to form dreadlocks...no joke! So I finally brought the sensitive topic up to Greg last night and surprisingly he agreed to let me take Mia to get her 1st haircut! I didn't want to wait too long and have Greg change his mind, so we brought Mia to Snip-its in Canton as soon as it opened this morning. And let me say i would highly recommend this place to anyone. Mia 100% did not want her hair cut, but Nickie the hairdresser was very patient and after bubbles, TV, cookies and the promise of a present after she finished cutting Mia's hair, we were in business!

Still not sleeping through the night, but she has got better lately. She goes to bed around 6:30-7 and will wake up 1 to 2 times a night before getting up for good around 5:30-6. I am so tempted to let her cry it out, but I really can't bring myself to do this yet. I waited until Mia was 1 before I did this to her and that will probably be the time I wait for Liv as well.
eating a lot. She eats breakfast lunch and dinner now with bottles or mommy's milk in between for snacks. Normal breakfast is 3 tablespoons of rice cereal, oatmeal or barley with 2 ice cubes of homemade baby food (Greg has been on a baby food making kick lately. He'll make the food and then we'll freeze it in ice cube trays). Lunch she'll eat about 4-5 ice cubes of baby food and dinner is the same as breakfast.
No crawling, but sitting up on her own like a pro
I call Liv my "quiet observer" because she loves to do just that. She wants to sit and watch what everyone else is doing. Especially Kids. She loves to watch kids on the playground or she loves just to watch her sister play.
She doesn't really have the same drive to want to walk as Mia did, but Mia was also walking really, really early (9months). If you stand Liv up she'll be happy to stand, but doesn't try to take steps unless you initiate.

Still so happy and so fun to be around. She is my "cartoon baby" because she is just too good to be true. I always tell Greg that Liv is so good that it's really going to make me miss having a baby around....to which he rolls his eyes and tells me to get that thought out of my head!

Thanksgiving number 2

My sister and I always spend Thanksgiving at our in laws, so we get together with our parents another day to celebrate Thanksgiving all over again. Liv had a wonderful time being passed around like a hot potato and Mia spent most of the time trying to get the 3 dogs Jeter, Charlie and CoCo to chase her around. Ahhh...nothing like the holidays.

Mia and Paulie are always fun to watch, but I have to say they were on a whole new level of cuteness on this day. They were chasing each other, playing so well with each other and really showed a genuine love for each other. It was also very cute to see Paulie interacting with Liv. So 4 High School classmates of mine all had babies around the same time I had Liv. We were able to get together today and have the kiddies all meet and play together. It was sooo fun to reconnect and chat about what else? Motherhood!

And don't think Mia was left out......she had plenty of quality time with her "boyfriend." Here they are on a romantic lunch date. Gabriel treated Mia to peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, apple slices and juice boxes.

A conversation between Mia and Grammy today.

Mia just woke up from her nap and said she wasn't ready to go down stairs yet. So Grammy let her hang out in bed for about 10 minutes before she checked in on her again. When Grammy walked into Mia's room for the 2nd time she said "What's wrong Mia are you still tired." Mia replied, "ummm....no. I'm not sure what my problem is..."

This year Greg and I were hoping that we could get Mia on Santa's lap. Well that didn't happen. Mia was squeezing and clinging onto me like a bum on a bologna sandwich. And for the bonus of the night, little Liv had a melt down at the site of Santa too! So Greg and I were not prepared to get in the pic with Santa (hence the tee shirt and sweatshirt), but we did what we had to in order to get these adorable children to sit with Santa. Of course the second we were done with the pic Mia said she wanted to tell Santa that she'd like a "toy" for Christmas. The photo package we purchased came with a teddy bear, so we gave that to Mia and told her it was from Santa. She was so happy that she has continued to talk about the experience today. She named that Teddy bear "Santa." Hoping for better luck next year!

I still can't believe my little Livie is getting sooo big! She now rolls over, moves around in the walker, and on her stomach she'll push her arms all the way up and try to move her legs to crawl! She's a very patient baby and won't get too frustrated when she can't reach something....instead, she will keep at it until she gets it! I can already tell she's going to be my little trouble maker because she is so fast. If I put her down on the floor, she will roll to the other side of the room in a blink of the eye. In the walker she will gravitate toward the low reaching toy bins and pull them completely out. She will also sneak up behind you and grab your pant legs. When her sister is eating at the kitchen table, Liv is bound to scoot right next to Mia's chair and just beg for Mia's attention.

So I never got any pics of Mia and Liv on Halloween. Mia refused to wear her costume and we went trick or treating in regular clothes. We got Liv's costume on her, but it was so tight we didn't keep it on for too long. My little chunky 6 month old needs 12 month clothes! Good thing Grammy took the girls to a Halloween party at the Farmington library on Friday and managed to snap these pics!....
